Peach, Sorrel or Shell? (2025)
moving image, 7 seconds

Installation view from a group exhibition Systematic Decay curated by Edenlobotomy at Candid Arts.

This work explores the perception and objectification of female bodies through slang names. 'Peach', 'sorrel', and ‘shell’ are male-defined terms that are often used online for representation and categorisation of female intimate body parts that became viral in Russia a few years ago.
‘Are you a peach or a shell?’ became a normalised question for men to ask online as well as in person.
Though delving into themes of body ownership and male gaze, the artist's aim was to address the issue of viewing body parts as instruments or decorative objects and to give the female body a voice.
